Learn the Right Move, Not Just the Definition: PMP Master Vocabulary (Word)
The PMP word list I wished I'd had: 105 term clusters, each with a star priority, the right move and the trap answer, built on PMBOK 8 and ECO 2026.
While I studied for the PMP, I looked at a few word lists. Most of them put a term next to its definition. But what threw me on exam day wasn't a missing definition. It was not knowing what the PM should do first when that term shows up.
So after I passed, I made the word list I wanted back then. Next to each definition, it adds the right move and the trap answer.
In three lines — I turned 105 term clusters into cards, built on PMBOKPMBOKProject Management Body of Knowledge: A collection of processes, best practices, terminologies, and guidelines compiled by the PMI.Read More → 8 and the 2026 ECO. Each card has a star priority, the core meaning, the right move, the trap answer and review checkboxes. It comes as four Word files (Korean, English, Spanish and Japanese) for $5.99.
Why knowing the definition is only half of it
The PMP doesn't test definitions. It gives you a situation and asks what you'd do first. You can know exactly what a change control board (CCB) is and still miss the question where a customer asks for "just one more feature," if you pick the option that adds it right away.
Most of the mistakes I kept repeating, which I wrote about in Pass Review Part 2, were like that. I escalated before talking to the team. I picked a fix before finding the cause. I acted on a change before analyzing its impact. I knew the terms, but the move that comes after the term wasn't second nature yet.
What's on each card
Every card in the book uses the same layout.
| Field | What it holds |
|---|---|
| Number and stars | A number from 001 to 105 and a ★★★/★★/★ priority |
| ECO tag | The 2026 ECO task the term ties to (for example, BE3 change control) |
| Term | The English term, plus the translated term in the other language editions |
| Core meaning | The idea in two or three sentences |
| Right move | What PMI would do first |
| Trap answer | The plausible wrong option the exam sets up |

Cards tied to mistakes I actually repeated carry a red "Jayden's mistake" note. Those are the cards on change control, quality tools, conflict resolution and development approaches.
How to use the stars
You don't need to give all 105 the same attention. The stars come in three levels.
- ★★★ 36 cards: keep repeating these until exam day
- ★★ 52 cards: review these at least twice
- ★ 17 cards: read once and mark
The three checkboxes in the top-right corner of each card are for your first, second and third pass. In Word on desktop, one click checks them.
A three-step card loop
I adapted the 5-minute loop from my commute study post to the cards.
- Look at the term line only and say what it means. Cover the rest of the card with your hand.
- Answer "What would PMI do first?" Cover the right move, say it, then check.
- Read the trap line and mark it if it's the answer you nearly picked. Move the marked cards into your error log.

The cards follow the 6 principles, 7 performance domains and 40 processes of PMBOKPMBOKProject Management Body of Knowledge: A collection of processes, best practices, terminologies, and guidelines compiled by the PMI.Read More → 8, and the exam that changed in July 2026 (ECO 2026). Topics that carry more weight in the 8th edition and the new ECO, such as finance, compliance, sustainability and AI, have their own cards.
That said, the PMP isn't written from any single book. Use this as a tool for picking up the exam's language quickly, not as a replacement for the exam scope. I cover what changed in Part 5: Everything that changed in the 2026 PMP exam.

01Change Request
To change a baseline: impact analysis → change request → approval → implement → record and share. Corrective action fixes an existing variance, preventive action heads off future ones, defect repair fixes deliverables.
For a new request or schedule change, analyze impact first, then submit a change request. In agile, add it to the backlog for the product owner to prioritize.
02Contingency Reserve
Contingency reserve: for identified risks (known-unknowns), inside the cost baseline. Management reserve: for unidentified risks (unknown-unknowns), outside the baseline, inside the budget. Budget = cost baseline + management reserve.
Identified risk occurs → contingency reserve. Unforeseen in-scope work → management reserve with management approval; it changes the baseline, so use change control.
03Servant Leadership
The PM leads by removing impediments, delegating and coaching, not directing.
In agile or self-organizing teams, help the team decide for itself and clear the impediments it can't. Escalate only beyond your authority.

Goes well with
This vocabulary is one of the four books in Jayden's PMP Kit. If you want the principles and domains as a structure, there's PMBOK 8 Study Notes for the PMP. For the final week, I made the PMP Final-Week Cram Book and Jayden's PMP Cheat Sheets to use alongside it. How to fit all four into a 7-week calendar, and the kit price, are in Jayden's PMP Kit and the 7-week plan.
Frequently asked questions
What file format is it?
Word (.docx). You get four files, in Korean, English, Spanish and Japanese. Noto Sans is embedded in each document, so it looks the same without installing any fonts. The original 172-term PDF word list is included as well.
Do I get it right after paying?
Yes. Once checkout on Gumroad is done, the download page opens right away, and the same link is emailed to you.
Can I read it on my phone?
You can open it in the Word app or another document app. Clicking the review checkboxes works best in Word on desktop.
Does it match the exam that changed in July 2026?
It's built on PMBOKPMBOKProject Management Body of Knowledge: A collection of processes, best practices, terminologies, and guidelines compiled by the PMI.Read More → 8 and the 2026 ECO. The PMP isn't written from any one book, though, so I recommend using it alongside the official ECO.
